Counter Strike Shakedown #3
INSIDER ESPORTS – Forrest "var1ables" Campbell releases #3 of his Counter Strike 1.6 Shakedown. This series will look at happenings in eSports the past week and his opinion on what's going on.

This isn’t going to be as long as the previous two shakedowns, mainly due to the lack of LOLWTF moments going on this week.
More GuX Drama
Ramsus “GuX” Stahl commented on the SK Gaming, fnatic contract controversy in a video interview by HLTV.org. Let’s just say he wasn’t exactly nice about the whole situation.
“I don’t have a lot of good things to say about SK” and “I got used by SK” are the two more potent statements he gave. He further stated that, while the players were nice, the organization messed with his head big time.

More Roster Problems
This week seems to be dead even in the disbandment of old teams and new ones made. First being the addition of FairFrag to wCrea, making one team in the positive for the sponsorship.
Another thing coming out of France is Steeve "Ozstrik3r" Flavigni, of Millenium and others, forming a new team and being sponsored by D4-Gaming, known for their sponsorship of now North American player, David “Xp3” Garrido.
However, this was quickly negated by PGS losing their CS team and x6tence disbanding their CS team almost moments after. So we come back out at zero for the overall CS sponsorship count.
Hopefully, the next weeks will have these teams find new homes, or have these teams be picked apart and go into super teams which will help their scene like the A-gaming/DTS merger - which created Na’Vi - did for the Ukrainian scene.
H2k also lost their CS team, but it appears to be more because of the CS team’s looking for a new, and better sponsor, than the sponsors inability to cover the teams overall costs.

Intel Extreme Masters’ first event - IEM Shanghai - has seen two major moves since the initial announcement of the groups earlier this summer. Two major teams have had to leave the competition for some reason - first being Evil Geniuses which left Monday this week for unstated reasons, the second being SK-gaming, leaving for what is most likely due to the SK-gamng/fnatic/GuX contract dispute which leaves SK-gaming with only a four man roster.
This is really unfortunate. I’m truly depressed - i was looking forward to this event, the groups, both of which could be called groups of death can show why I'd be excited. This hope was dismantled this week however, with 9ez,a team I've never heard of, replacing SK and Tyloo.raw, a good team but not quite the contender of the other teams, replacing EG.

Gamegune Recap
Gamegune - the biggest Spanish LAN - happened this weekend and nothing surprising happened through the tournament. The groups favorite advanced - Na’Vi, fnatic,frag eXecutor, CnB, etc all advanced. The only real surprising result in group stage was k1ck beating out wCrea for the top spot in group F.
The bracket stage used the now antiquated bo1 double elimination bracket, where - per usual - Na’Vi, fnatic, FX, and CnB made it to the semi’s. Then it got interesting in the upper half of the backet, FX set Na’Vi to the lower Bracket and fnatic only beat CnB by six rounds on the other side. FX continued their upsets, sending the newly empowered fnatic to the lower bracket in the winner’s bracket final.

In the lower backet, some insanity ensued - wCrea redeemed themselves by eliminating CnB in the quarter finals of the lower bracket, K1ck made it to the same round, only to fall to Na’Vi in the same round. The lower bracket’s semi final showed that Na’Vi is still on a different level for most teams, beating wCrea 16 - 9 going back to face fnatic in the lower bracket finals only to fall to them 16 - 9 and then went on to the WCG 2009 finals rematch against Frag eXecutors in the grand finals.
However it was nothing like the WCG grand finals and the poles could not edge out fnatic, who beat them 2 - 1 winning train in OT and narrowly besting fX on Nuke 16 - 13, making this the second tournament win of the year and taking home 13,000 euros.
